Each individual progresses in the practice of Iyengar Yoga uniquely. These class descriptions provide a general guide to help you to find the classes best suited to your current yoga experience and personal circumstances.

Beginner & Level 1 : Beginning

These classes are taught in a progressive series, and each lesson builds on the previous week’s class. These classes are ideal for those who are new to Iyengar Yoga to learn the essentials of Iyengar Yoga practice that develop balance, strength, and mobility. Participants must be able to get up and down from the floor. No previous experience is necessary. Relaxation poses are introduced. After completing a Beginner & Level 1 series, students may continue with these classes, or move on into the Level 1+2 and All Levels classes.

Level 1+2 : Continuing

Level 1 students continue to develop confidence in foundational postures while also working with more detailed instructions. Sarvangasana (shoulderstand) and basic back extensions are introduced.

Level 2 : Deepening

Level 2 students have developed a strong foundation in their practice. They have continued for some time already in Level 1+2 or All Levels classes, have developed a high capacity for concentration, and have experienced a wider repertoire of asanas. Level 2 students have developed a positive inclination towards deeper study and exploration of the Iyengar Yoga methodology, and are ready to integrate philosophical concepts in practice.

Inversions are regularly practiced in these classes, as well as back extensions and pranayama. Sarvangasana (shoulderstand) and its variations are a consistent part of the practice at this level. Sirsasana is introduced.

Level 2+3 : Experiencing

Level 2+3 students have already developed a high level of insight into the practice of Iyengar Yoga through prolonged study and practice, and have become confident and independent practitioners. Sirsasana (headstand) is a consistent element of the deepening work in these classes. A mature and cultivated personal practice is expected of those attending a dedicated Level 2+3 Class.

All Levels : Essentials

All level classes work with a range of postures that are regarded as essential practices for all levels of practice for building general strength and flexibility.

Gentle : Easy Pace

An easy-paced class with a mild approach to yoga practice. These classes focus on poses that improve mobility, balance, and concentration. Students must be able to get up and down from the floor. No previous experience is necessary.
